The MET's music program strongly emphasizes a student-centered experience. We provide different instructive and performance opportunities for our students , adapted to the students' levels of expertise, skill and stylistic interest. Our teachers, with ample experience in music education, coach and inspire students the love for musical expression and mastery.
Our programs are incorporated into the core curriculum in Elementary School and ties in with our students' Units of Inquiry to extend on the themes viewed in other academic subjects. Our students begin their music formation at a young age with our youngest Early Childhood students gaining the foundations of sound and rhythm for instrumetal preparation. In 1st through 6th grade, our students choose a string or wind instrument to learn during their core music classes while in Secondary School music classes are optional and can be taken within their core curriculum or as an elective class.
In addition to the music curriculum within the school hours, students have many opportunities to further the mastery of their instrument by joining the school Orchestra, or joining smaller music bands that are part of our Extra-Curricular Activities Program. The MET also offers students venues for live performances throughout the academic year.
All instruments used by our students within our curricular music classes, orchestra and Extra-Curricular Activities Program are offered by the MET. Additionally, we have a bank of instruments available for students. If a student wishes, he or she may check out an instrument to take home to practice further. For more information about checking out instruments, please contact the Director of the MET Orchestra.
