The MET's music program strongly emphasizes a student-centered experience. We provide instructive and performance opportunities for our students of all ages, adapted to the students' levels of expertise, skill and stylistic interest. Our teachers, with ample experience in music education, coach and inspire students the love for musical expression and mastery.
Our programs are incorporated into the core curriculum and ties in with our students' Unit of Inquiry to extend on the themes viewed in other academic subjects. Our students begin their music formation at a young age with our youngest Early Childhood students, gaining the foundations of sound and rhythm for instrumetal preparation. Starting in 1st Grade, our students choose a string or wind instrument.
In addition to the music curriculum within the school hours, students have many opportunities to further the mastery of their instrument by joining the school Orchestra, or one of seven smaller music bands that are part of our Extra-Curricular Activities Program. The MET also offers students venues for live performances throughout the academic year.
Our new Fine Arts wings has several music rooms that allow for intruction in smaller groups that adapt to the students' chosen instrument.
All instruments used by our students within our curricular music classes, orchestra and Extra-Curricular Activities Program are offered by the MET. Additionally, we have a bank of instruments available for students. If a student wishes, he or she may check out an instrument to take home to practice further. For more information about checking out instruments, please contact the Director of the MET Orchestra.
